In short: There are air conditioners whose maintenance poses a serious technical challenge. The LG Artcool Gallery is one such example: when removing the front panel, which resembles a picture frame, electrical connections must also be disconnected, and the fan and the cover panels behind it are difficult to access due to the location of the heat exchanger. A3 Air Conditioning cleans these units without disrupting the cooling circuit, through the coordinated efforts of two technicians, including a thorough rinse and disinfection treatment.
Most wall-mounted air conditioners have a similar design: the front panel can be opened, the filters can be removed, and the internal components are easily accessible with the proper tools and protective equipment. However, there are some units whose unique exterior design is paired with a completely different internal structure. Cleaning these requires more preparation, greater expertise, and more careful work. The LG Artcool Gallery is a good example of this.
Why is maintaining certain air conditioning systems a challenge?
For designer air conditioners and custom-designed indoor units, appearance is the primary consideration. However, due to the unusually shaped casing, the elements built into the front panel, and the more compact internal layout, access for cleaning is more difficult. If the maintenance technician is not prepared for this, it is easy for only the visible parts to be cleaned, while dirt and grime remain on the fan and internal surfaces.
The LG Artcool Gallery at a Glance
The LG Artcool Gallery is a side-wall split air conditioner indoor unit; thanks to its square, frame-like front panel, the unit resembles a framed picture on the wall. Earlier versions allowed users to insert their own images or photos into the front panel, while the newer Premium models feature a 27-inch display. This unit is ideal for those who view their air conditioner as part of their home’s decor and want it to blend harmoniously into their living space. However, this unique design also has implications for maintenance.
Why is it harder to clean the Artcool Gallery air conditioner?
While thoroughly cleaning the equipment at one of our clients' Artcool Gallery locations, it became clear why this model requires extra care.
Removing the front panel requires two technicians
When removing the front panel, the electrical connections must also be disconnected, while holding the removed component securely. This step required the coordinated efforts of two technicians to ensure that neither the front panel nor the connections were damaged.

The fan and the exterior surfaces are difficult to access
Due to the heat exchanger’s location, the fan and the casing surfaces behind it are difficult to access. However, for a thorough cleaning, accumulated dirt must also be removed from these parts, because the indoor unit recirculates air back into the room through them.
Why isn't it enough to clean the front panel and the filter?
A clean front panel and a washed filter alone do not guarantee that the air conditioner has been thoroughly cleaned. The filter traps the coarser contaminants in the intake air, but over time, deposits can still build up on less visible internal parts, such as the fan, the heat exchanger, and the interior surfaces of the housing. The condition of these parts is just as important as that of the visible ones.
The self-cleaning function is no substitute for professional cleaning
Some Artcool Gallery models also feature self-cleaning and drying functions, which help reduce moisture after use. However, these functions do not remove dirt that has accumulated on the fan and the interior surfaces. To do this, the unit must be professionally disassembled and rinsed.
How do you clean the LG Artcool Gallery air conditioner?
We performed the work without disassembling the cooling circuit. This means that we did not tamper with the system containing the refrigerant; the cleaning was limited to the accessible parts of the indoor unit. The main steps of the process are:
- Preparation and Defense: Carefully protect the electrical components before washing.
- How to Safely Remove the Front Panel: Disconnecting the electrical connections through the coordinated efforts of two professionals.
- Precise access to internal components: Access to the fan and the casing surfaces around the heat exchanger.
- Rinsing: Removing accumulated dirt even from hard-to-reach surfaces.
- Controlled discharge of contaminated water: to prevent the washing water from getting on the walls, furniture, or electrical components.
- Disinfection treatment: Treatment of washed surfaces.
- Reinstallation: Carefully reinstalling the front panel and connections, and handing over the device in good working order.
What did the cleaning reveal?
According to our client, the devices had never undergone such a thorough cleaning before. The buildup of dirt on the interior surfaces clearly demonstrated this: cleaning the hard-to-reach areas was particularly necessary. After thorough cleaning and disinfection, the devices were returned to their original locations in a clean and orderly condition.
Experience shows that an air conditioner can look clean and well-maintained on the outside, while the area behind the casing still requires thorough cleaning. This is especially true for units whose interiors are difficult to access.
When Should You See a Specialist?
It is generally recommended that a professional clean your air conditioner at least once a year; in cases of heavy use, more frequent cleaning may be necessary. Regardless, you should schedule an appointment if you notice any of the following:
- An unpleasant, musty odor can be detected when the air conditioner is turned on,
- the outgoing airflow seems weaker,
- deposits appear behind the fins or on the fan,
- He doesn't know when the device was last thoroughly cleaned.
In the case of the Artcool Gallery and other uniquely designed devices, removing the front panel yourself is not recommended, as this step requires expertise and the coordinated efforts of two people due to the electrical connections.
Frequently asked questions
Even this special device deserves comprehensive care
Regular, professional maintenance is essential for the long-term use of a high-quality air conditioning system. A custom design may require more work, but difficult access is no excuse for allowing dirt to accumulate inside the unit. At A3 Air Conditioning, we’re fully prepared to service uniquely designed units. For us, thorough work continues even behind the casing.
